Tyler James Granfield, 28, was born in Springfield, MA on September 17, 1983 to the proud parents of Kerry and Christine Granfield. Following in his father's footsteps, at a very young age he developed a passion for climbing trees. He attended elementary and middle school in Southwick, transferred to Wilbraham and Monson Academy for two years, and graduated from Westfield Vocation High School in 2002. Tyler loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He spent many hours in the woods and fields alongside his best friends Johnny, Shane, Brian, Zach, Terrance, Brien, and Joe. He enjoyed wrestling and riding dirt bikes, quads, and snowmobiles. He loved to travel and spend his weekends on Congamond Lakes floating and cruising on his pontoon boat. His smile and personality shined so bright that when he walked into a room he stole everyone's attention. He was such a genuine person; he had such a big heart and always put others before him. Tyler epitomized the ideals of a hard worker: he was driven, dedicated, and determined. He began his career under the guidance of his father spending long hours working for his family's business, Granfield Tree Service. In 2007, he began his own venture, founding Tyler's Tree Service. Day in and day out, he worked hard to establish a very successful company. Tyler's passing was such a tragic shock to everyone who knew him. He was taken from his family and friends too soon. Tyler is survived by his father, Kerry M. Granfield and mother, Christine (Mongeon) Granfield both of Southwick, MA; grandparents Leonard Sr. and Jeannine Mongeon of Barefoot Bay, FL; godparents Leonard Jr. and Terri Mongeon of Hinesburg, VT; older brother, William J. Granfield of Suffield, CT; older sister, Kylee C. Granfield and brother-in-law John O'Donnell of Agawam, MA; and younger sister Chelsea M. Daniele and brother-in-law Aristide Daniele of Southampton, MA. He leaves behind his beloved girlfriend of nine years, Tara L. Gorenc of Southwick, MA; nieces Esterina and McKayla O'Donnell; nephew Giovanni Daniele; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind his dogs Camo and constant companion Chipper. Friends and family will gather for visiting hours at the Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 625 College Highway, Southwick on Monday, April 2 from 3 to 8 PM. On Tuesday funeral services will begin at 8:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 224 Sheep Pasture Rd, Southwick at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in New Cemetery, College Highway, Southwick. Tyler's family suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Tyler J. Granfield Memorial Scholarship Fund and sent to Westfield Bank, P.O. Box 1111 Southwick, MA 01077.
