Stephen Rogers was the oldest of eight children; his parents were Margaret and Lauren Rogers. He graduated from Tampa (Florida) Jesuit High School in 1944 and soon was serving under General George Patton at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He continued his education at Loyola University in New Orleans where he met his wife Evelyn, a nursing student. They were married at Most Holy Name Cathedral in New Orleans on March 5, 1952. He earned his degree at the University of Tampa in Florida and later a Master's Degree in Science from the University of North Texas in 1965. He was a beloved science teacher at St. Mary's Catholic School and Sherman High School. He is the father of a son, Stephen Richard Rogers, and a daughter, Deborah Margaret Rogers Van Nurden.
