Frank Arthur Schreck, Sr., 83, died Thursday, Feb. 11,1999. Born May 17, 1915, he had been a resident of Henderson for 56 years. He moved to Henderson from Land O' Lakes, Wis, when he was 25 years old in 1940. He was a founding member of 50-year-old St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Henderson and a life-time member of the Lions Club. "He was a smart businessman and a very affable and pleasant man," said former Gov. Mike O'Callaghan, Schreck's long-time friend, "His home was always open. He was a good human being, a good husband and a good father with a good sense of humor. His son, Frank A. Schreck, Jr., 53, a gaming attorney whose wife Bonnie died of cancer the same day, said his father was a kind and gentle man who taught him the nuances of giving. "He was loved by everybody," Frank Jr. said. "He always went out of his way to be nice to everyone. There was never a mean bone in his body. If anyone ever needed help, he was always there to help. I guess I've kind of tried to be like him sometimes when I've done some of my pro bono work over the years." "Frank kind of worked behind the scenes getting things done for the community," longtime resident Lou LaPorta said. After moving to Henderson with his wife, Josephine "Jo," he was employed as an accountant at Basic Management Inc. before moving over to Stauffer Chemical Co., where he worked in the business department for 30 years. Stauffer's Charles Trueworthy said Schreck always make it to the Pioneer Christmas party. "I missed him this year," he said. During O'Callaghan's administration from 1971 to 1979, Schreck was employed by the state of Nevada Economic Development division. Long-time Henderson bank official Selma Bartlett said "Schreck was a great leader, a wonderful community supporter husband and father -all were of equal importance." Schreck was an avid bowler and marksman who liked to practice at the Target Club. After he retired he enjoyed travel and spending time with his family, Frank Jr. said. He is survived by his son, Frank Jr., and three grandchildren, Kimberly Davis, Derek Matthew Schreck, and Sydney Schreck all of Las Vegas. The family suggests donations in his name be sent to the Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89109. A memorial will be held at 3 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary-Eastern, 7600 S.
