ANNA L. (SHEPARD) CONNELL, 85, of 307 12th Avenue, Sterling, passed away Sunday night (5 Sep 1954) at the Mansion Nursing Home in Dixon. The body was removed to the Allen Funeral Home where friends may call. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Bloomquist of the Freeport Methodist Church officiating. Church services will be held at 2 p.m. (CST) at the First Methodist Church in Savanna with Rev. Lawrence Axelson of the Fourth Street Methodist Church of Sterling, officiating, assisted by Rev. Stanley Beck of the Savanna Methodist Church. Burial will be in Savanna Cemetery.

Mrs. Connell was born Aug. 25, 1869, in Savanna to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Shepard. She married John Connell Sept. 15, 1897, who preceded her in death in 1935. She was a member of the Fourth Street Methodist Church of Sterling, DAR, and a former member of the Clinton, Ia., chapter of the order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by one daughter, Miss Margaret Connell, a teacher at Lincoln Junior High School in Rockford; one son, Sherman J. Connell of Sterling; one grandson, Philip Connell of Sterling; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Connell was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; one daughter, Kathleen in infancy; a son Cecil; and four sisters and four brothers. -- Contributed by Melva L.
