Josephine A. Maahs, 97, of Idaho City, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at her home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday from 9 a.m. until noon, prior to the services, at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel, 1205 W. Bannock St. Josephine was born July 1, 1903, at Nova Scotia, Canada. She graduated from school there, and went to Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of 17 to attend business college where she graduated from Wilcox College. She later attended Cleveland College and worked as a bookkeeper and credit manager at Solar Products Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. She married Earl W. Miller in 1925, and she and Mr. Miller had a real estate and insurance business until they moved to Caldwell, Idaho, in 1947. Mr. Miller passed away in January 1955, and Josephine completed her practical nurses training at St. Luke's Hospital/Boise Junior College in Boise. When she graduated, she returned to Caldwell to nurse at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She married Frank Maahs on Dec. 27, 1958, and moved to Homedale in February 1959. She was a member of Hermosa Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in Caldwell. Josephine loved to entertain and have friends over for dinners, and she raised beautiful roses and flowers. She loved to help anyone in need. She had lots of hobbies and enjoyed ice-skating and having fun.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles H. Miller and Mary, Glenn S. Miller and Anne; her grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Frank Maahs; a son, Earl W. Miller; five sisters; four brothers; and her parents.
