JANESVILLE ---Robert S. Halley, 73, of 2128 Holiday Drive, passed away in Mercy Hospital ICU on Thursday, dec. 5, 1996, as the result of an accident. He was born to Charles E. and Grace (Morris) Halley on the 26th of July, 1923, in Beloit. He attended the Beloit schools and graduated from the Beloit High school in 1946, and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Farm Short Courses. Robert married Milbreth Smith and the Lord took her away in 1983. Robert spent many years as a Boy Scout and as a leader, having had the Silver Beaver awarded to him by the governor. Robert and his brother, Morris and their families farmed the home farm in Newark Township up until last December, when the farm was sold. Robert was a sincere Christian, baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church of Beloit where he continued to be an active member until his marriage to Viola. He then became a staunch member of St. John Lutheran Church of Janesville. He served on the council and sang in the senior choir until his death. Robert had been active as an officer in the Gideon Association for the past 13 years. He was a member of Janesville Blackhawk Golden "K" Kiwanis and the Kiwanis Senior Chorus. He was a senior companion to the elderly of Janesville; a volunteer for Mercy Center and the House of Mercy, Meals on Wheels and formerly for Riverview Clinic.
