Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Christy-Smith Morningside Funeral Home.
Harold was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Walter Carl and Rose (Ladendorf) Fester. He was raised in the Denison and Danbury, Iowa, area and attended school in the Soldier, Iowa, area.
He married Dorothy Elizabeth Uhl on May 11, 1942, in Mapleton. The couple lived in Smithland where Harold farmed until they moved to Sioux City in 1953. Harold was employed with Armour & Co. from 1953 to 1963 and then with the city of Sioux City in the Parks& Recreation Department, where he worked until retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Harold enjoyed yardwork, watching sports on television and spending time with family at home.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert and his wife, Rosemary Fester of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Gary and his wife, Joann Fester of Sioux City, Tim and his wife, Andrea Fester of Grand Junction, Iowa, Bobbi Jo Fester and her fiance, Darren Speichinger of Sioux City, and Kathie Jo and her husband, Michael Church of Sioux City; eight great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; and a great-great-stepgrandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be Gary Fester, Tim Fester, Michael Church, Darren Speichinger, Tom Martensen and David Waderich.
Memorials may be directed to the family in his name.
