Charles Waddill died Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Gallaher, near Hillsgrove, after a week's illness.
At this time no arrangements have been made for the funeral.∼The Macomb Daily By-Stander, page 5

Charles Waddill died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gallaher near Colmar. Funeral services were held today.
Deceased was well known and his death is deeply regretted by his many friends.∼The Macomb Daily By-Stander, page 5
Thursday, January 6, 1921
Charles R. Waddill was born March 8th, 1850, on the farm where his parents, Wesley and Mary Eve (Lawyer) Waddill established their home in the pioneer days of Hills Grove. He died Jan. 3rd, 1921, at 3 p. m. at his [sic] home where he has lived for 43 years. He has lived more than his three score years and ten for in two months he would have been 71 years old; his last sickness was of only nine days duration though he had not been strong for a number of years.
He was the second of a family of four children and the last one to lay down the joys and burdens of life. When he was nine [seven] years old his father died and at eleven he began to take up the duties that fall to the oldest son of a widowed mother.
He was twice married and five children have come into his home, two of whom are in the Heavenly Mansion. In august [sic], 1887 he was married to Hannah E. Follin, who died Jan 26th, 1907; his mother died in his home Feb. 15th of the same year; since his wife's death his daughter, Candis [sic], has taken her mother's place and filled the noblest calling a woman ever filled--making a home.
He loved music and company and was always happy with his violin and his friends around him. A good father and neighbor has gone from among us but left the comforting message that he had made his peace with his maker. There is left one daughter and one son, who reside in Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gallaher and their daughter, Grace, who will sorely miss him in their home.
The funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 in the Hills Grove church conducted by Rev. D. S. Crane and the burial was at the King cemetery.∼Monday was January 3, 1921. Two independent readings of his death certificate indicate he died on January 4.
Rather than living continuously in Tennessee Township as stated in the obituary, in 1900 Charles, Hannah, children Mary L., William W. and Candace were residents of Plymouth, Hancock County.
