"THE MARTINBURG SCHOOLS.
The Missouri School Journal of Jefferson City, H.A. Gass's paper, said last week:

The martinsburg public school, for the past year in charge of Prin. S.L. Mapes, closed a very successful eight months' term with a strong graduating class. This school has for a great many h years been noted as one of the many excellent small schools in the State, and it has greater promise for usefulness during the coming year than in the past. The people voted to increase the levy from forty to sixty cents and will continue the school regularly for eight months.

Mr. Mapes is re-employed, and his salary increased to $75 per month. The increase in levy is the outgrowth of the splendid work done by Mr. Mapes in popularizing the school. The Martinsburg district has not levied more than forty cents for many years, and this increase shows the decided step for progress that the district has taken. It is a good school, but will be much better next year. Both assistants for this year were retained for the coming year."
