SHERMAN: Services for Ernest Allen Chesnut, 94, of Sherman who passed away at his residence on Saturday, August 19,2 006 will be held on Tues Aug 22, 2006 at 10 a.m. in the Dannel Funeral Home Chapel. Dr Patrick Mead of Fairview Baptist Church will officiate.
Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with military honors accorded by the U S Army of Fort Hood, TX.
Mr. Chesnut was born in Sherman, TX on Jan 9, 1912 to John F Chesnut and Lessie Willingham Chesnut. He attended Plainview Y Hagerman Community Schools. At the age of 21 he joined the U S Army. He retired from the military at age 49 as a MSgt in 1961 after 27 years of service. During his military career he participated in "Bloody Red One" during WW II. He also served in Korea.
After the military he worked in security services until retirement at age 72.
On Oct 6, 1964 he married Blanche Rainbolt Davis in Durant, OK. She passed away in Oct of 1995 after 31 years of marriage.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche; his parents; three sisters and one brother.
He is survived by his step-daughter; June Cochran of Artesia, NM; two grandsons, Butch & Steve Cochran; nieces and nephews; friends; Mary Ann Wright and Joann Matlack.
He passed away in the loving care of his best friend and caregiver Joann Matlack.
