Civil War Veteran: Enlisted Feb. 28, 1864 at Point Lookout, Maryland. Richard first served in Company D, 12th New Hampshire Colored Troops, USA. He also served in the 2nd New Hampshire Infantry, Company C. Richard mustered out of the Army on December 19, 1865. Richard was owned by Mordecia C. Jones at the time of his enrollment in Army. Richard was the son of William Medley and Nancy Bennett. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosa (Barnes) Medley. Richard and Rosy were married on December 26, 1867.
