William Luther Englett, 83 of Douglasville died October 29, 2008. Service was held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Pastor Craig Bowler, Chaplin Dennis Bellamy, family friend, former Cobb County Commissioner, Bill Byrne officiating. Entombment was at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta.

Mr. Englett was born in Douglasville, grew up in South Cobb County, and graduated from West Fulton High School. After graduating in 1943 while World War II was far from over, Bill joined the military and became a sergeant in the Eighth Air Force.

Sgt William L. Englett flew 10 missions, from 04/04/1945, mission #241, to 04/20/1945, mission #254. He served as a Ball Turret Gunner. As a B-17 ball turret gunner he flew ten bombing missions over Germany before the axis powers surrendered.

When the war ended Bill returned home, married Mary Moss, entered what is now Georgia State University, and began a forty-four-year career with Delmar Cabinet Company. Beginning his Masonic career 56 years ago in Austell's Lathem Lodge Number 12, the Illustrious Potentate became a Scottish Rite Mason in 1954 and a Shriner of Yaarab Temple later the same year.

The 1992 Potentate earned his way to Yaarab's chief executive office early on by demonstrating uncommon leadership and a caring concern for other people. In addition to serving as Yaarab's Potentate, the Illustrious Sir also serves as President of the Widows' Fund and is a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. He continued to work with circus and crippled and burn Children's Hospital. Mr. Englett worked for Hardy Chevrolet in Dallas, GA for several years.

Mr. Englett is survived by daughter Sandy Delves and husband John of Powder Springs; sisters Jackie Shaw of Douglasville, Joyce Cox of Powder Springs, Jane Hardy of Palmetto, Janice Grubbs of Smyrna; brothers Lanier Englett of Lithia Springs, Hoyt Englett of Mableton, Jerry Englett of Alabama; grandchildren Jennifer Wilkes, Jason Delves; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Jean.
