The California Death Index reports that he was born 17 Feb 1890 in "other country" and that he died in San Luis Obispo, California; his mother's maiden name was shown as Salome. Mr. Ludwig's name appears in the 1940 US Census as a resident of Pittsburgh, PA (he lived there in 1935 as well); he was shown as being married (wife's name unknown) and was a lodger and servant at the Hotel Schenley in Pittsburgh, PA.
