RALPH W. BANFORD FUNERAL RITES

Funeral services for Ralph W. Banford were conducted by the Rev. Loren R. Hudson at the Central Church of Christ at Boone on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Mrs. Frank Williams and Mrs. George Morris sang, accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Veale.

Pallbearers were George Smalley, Jack Barrows, Everett Bentley, Don McCoy, Casper Peters, and John McCoy. The flower committee was composed of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Flynn, Mrs. Chas. Latham, Mrs. Edith Smalley, Mrs. Donald Schram, Dave Goeppinger, Hugo Werner and John Granson. Burial was in Linwood Park Cemetery.

Life Sketch

Ralph Warren Banford, son of Charles and Edith Banford, was born in Boone County, Oct. 4, 1919 and passed away near Gilbert, on Nov. 14, 1948, at the age of 29 years, one month and 10 days.

On Dec. 1, 1945, he was married to Nelta Ray. He always made his home in Boone and Story Counties.

Mr. Banford was a truck driver for the Gilbert Co-Op. Before entering the service of his country he engaged in general farming. He was a member of the Mackey Methodist Church.

Mr. Banford joined the National Guard in 1940 and was called to active duty in 1941 with the National Guard 34th Red Bull Division 185th Field Artillery. He was discharged in August, 1945, after nearly three years overseas duty. He received three bronze stars, five overseas bars, and a Good Conduct medal.

He is survived by his parents, his wife, Nelta; two brothers, Wilton of Boone and Maurice of Gilbert; one sister, Lois of Boone; three nieces and one nephew.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the service included: Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Banford and son and daughter, Mrs. Joseph Stanley, Mrs. John Morgan, all of Marshall, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. J.K. Miller and sons of Ogden; Elmer and Olive Miller of Ames; Floyd Miller and family of Des Moines; Mrs. Dorothy Ray and Mrs. Darlene Bennett, both of Fort Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Staley and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Staley, all of Waterloo.
