CHARLES BELL DEAD
Passes Away Sunday a Victim of Pneumonia.
Charles Bell, aged 56 years, a resident of Lead, passed away Sunday afternoon, after an illness of several days, a victim of pneumonia, which developed from an attack of grip. He is survived by his wife, formerly Margaret A. Jewitt, to whom he was married at Sturgis in July 1896. He leaves also three children, James C., aged 12 years, Isabelle G., aged 4 years and Robert J., aged two years. Funeral services will be held at the Rounsevell undertaking parlors Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
Deceased, who was born February 14, 1856 at Bonkary, Banffshire, Scotland, came of a prominent family, one of his brothers being a retired officer of the English army. Another brother, John Bell, is a leading businessman of Aberdeen, Scotland. Two of his nephews were killed recently in the Dardanelles, and two weeks ago a brother-in-law, Sampson Jeffery, passed away. He came to the Black Hills in 1886 and for a number of years operated a ranch near Sturgis, where he prospered, but eventually lost what he had accumulated through the failure of another to make good his obligations. Later he worked for the Homestake company and continued in that employment until disabled two years ago. He was devoted to his family and was always willing to sacrifice what he had for their comfort.
