Bernard Francis Brady (1930 - 2011)
Bernard Francis Brady, 81, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 12, 2011, 10 days before moving to California to be with his entire family. He was truly a global ambassador, larger than life itself. Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Inurnment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
A storyteller, world traveler, adventurer, avid sailor, Navy pilot and doctor, Bernard Francis Brady was all of these. Born Feb. 10, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was educated at Brooklyn Tech. He became a Navy pilot, flying A-4s, T-2s, the FJ-3 Fury and many more with his squadron known as "The Jesters" (VF-173). After retiring from the Navy, he went on to medical school in Mexico and became an ER physician in the states. He lived and traveled all over the world and had a gift for finding a common bond with every individual he met. He had friends all over the world. Ever the philanthropist, "Dr. Jim" spent much of his time traveling to Mexico assisting in surgeries. He served as president of Proyecto Huasteco, a non-profit providing surgeries for children with cleft lips and palates. His sense of adventure was contagious and he loved life; looking at every day as a gift. Thankfully, he passed this on to his children. "Diamond Jim" left no stone unturned when it came to living a great life, hot air ballooning and sailing the Caribbean. His Irish heritage and storytelling were legendary and we will miss him more than we can say.
Survivors: He is survived by his first wife, Mary Moore; his four children, Bernard Jr., Kevin Brady, Katie Hobson and Julie Jenner; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His Irish heritage.
