LAI, Tuan H. - On Sunday, 12 June, 2011 at 4:26pm, Tuan Hoang Lai passed away at the age of 53 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, after a brief but courageous battle with liver cancer. Everybody who met Tuan knew that his faith in Jesus Christ was a shining light in the darkness. As a survivor of war-torn Vietnam, he committed his life to bringing hope to those who were most vulnerable. He actively served as a missionary pastor at Evangel Community Church in Chatham for over a decade. He also spent all his vacation time in his native homeland carrying out missionary and humanitarian work such as feeding street children, providing clothing and medical supplies and digging water wells. Tuan leaves behind his wife, Mai, and their four children and four grandchildren. His eldest daughter, Cat-Dan, and her husband, Tim, and their 2-month old son, Liran, currently reside in the Seattle, Washington area. His firstborn son, Mac-Uy and his wife, Carshenan, live in Chatham with their three children, Estuya (6), Etienne (3) and Esme (1). His second son, Thien-An, and his wife, Jordan, also live in Seattle, Washington. His youngest daughter, Vi-Vien, and her fiance, Jordan, live in Chatham. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Tuesday June 14, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service is open to everyone who knew and loved him and will be held on Wednesday at 1:30pm at Evangel Community Church, 76 Sandys Street, Chatham. Interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. Tuan's family request that in place of flowers or other gifts, donations can be made to "Loads of Love," the charity that supported his work in Vietnam.
