The following is an excerpt from "Haven Heritage" by Inez Valdois, 1968 "The Astle Family"

"Charles Astle, son of Joseph and Jennie Astle, was born in Illinois in 1872 and passed away in Haven in 1943. He married Evena Battis of Arlington, Kansas; and they had three children; Glen, Vivian (Mrs. Ray Biege), and Lucille (Mrs. Leslie Hoff). After the death of his father, Charles took over the hardware store and later operated a grocery store north of the State Bank of Haven. Later he was made cashier of the Citizens State Bank of Haven; he held this position until he retired because of poor health. His wife passed away in 1948. His sister Charlotte (Mrs. Wooster Benson) or Lottie passed away in Oklahoma at the age of 96."
