John, Jr. went to Douglas Co., Oregon in 1850 and then finally settled in Oakland, Douglas Co. OR.

On 26 August 1882 in Bodie, Mono Co., Calif., Chesley registered to vote.


She was married to a Mr. Aldrich (sic) at the time of her death but she is listed as "Long"(shown on her DC). Believe Chesley probably deserted her & their son in Calif., then moved to Arizona, stating that he was a widower. She obviously returned to her maiden name after they ended their marriage. Have found no record for their son John C. Aldridge although Chesley had another son by his 2nd wife. See his memorial for further info.

No occupation is listed for Chesley. Why wld he be listed as a widower if Elizabeth is listed as his wife? The fact that she goes by "Illingsworth" indicates that they are not married. She has 1 child, not listed in the census. Apparently they reside next door to her father who is a railroad machinist.

Chesley Grigsby Aldridge's parents were Joel Aldridge & Mary Jane Jarnigan. Joel m. Mary Jane Jarnigan 2 March 1824, Grainger Co., Tenn. Joel, b. 27 August 1792, Virginia; d. 18 November 1844, Grainger Co, TN. Mary Jane, b. 1805, Long Creek, Jefferson Co., TN; d. 20 June 1851, Grainger Co., TN. Wonder why she's not listed in the below 1850 census?

Chesley's maternal grandparents were John Jarnagin & Susan Clark. John, b. April 8, 1775; d. May 2, 1851. John was a juror as early as 1796 in Grainger Co., TN, and bought land of Benjamin Jarnagin in 1807.
