Husband of Maria Elizabeth (Heffner) Hummel (1762-1846). Father of eight children: John Jacob, Johannes, Hannah, Benjamin, Daniel, Elizabeth, Mary and Hester Hummel. He was the son of John Jacob Hummel and Eva Maria (De Turk) Hummel. He was also a veteran of the Revolutionary War. DAR records list him as "Jacob Hummel." Records say he started as drummer and was mustered out as a captain.
