Son of James McVay and Mary A. (Holman) McVay. George was a Civil War Veteran. Member of the 34th Iowa Infantry, Co. K. He received a disability discharge on Jan. 30, 1864 in New Orleans, LA. He died four months later. George had 13 siblings, including two who are buried at this cemetery - Jefferson McVay and Eliza McVay.
