Mrs. Sarah Evans dies at home in Ledford Vicinity
Mrs. Sarah Evans ,86, great grandmother of Mr. James Scott of this city, died Thursday at 3 p.m. at her home on U.S. 45 in the vicinity of Ledford. Pneumonia, following an attack of gall bladder trouble, was the cause of her death which followed four weeks of illness. Following the death of her second husband, A.S. Evans, an invalid for several years, who died last September, Mrs. Evans continued to maintain her own home and live alone, remaining active until her fatal attack of illness. During it she was nursed by a granddaughter, Mrs Otis Pickering, whom she reared and three daughter, Mrs. Charles (Ada) Thompson, Bloomfield Hills, Mick., Mrs D.C.(Macie) Porter, Tablequrt, Okla., Mrs. Otta (Della) Simpson, Ledford, and a son Thomas Moore, also of Bloomfield Hills. Loved and admired by her 53 grandchildren. 70 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Mrs Evans never lacked company and attention during her advanced age. Earlier she had around her nine of eleven children born to William Moore. Mr. Moore died several years before her marriage to Mr. Evans. Beside the children mentioned she leaves Nathaniel Moore, also of Bloomfield Hill, Mich., Mrs. W.C. (Nellie) Simmons, King Fisher, Okla., Rufus Moore, Creede, Colo., Gilbert Moore, Carrier Mills, and John Moore, DuQoin. She was born in souther Indiana and had lived at Shawneetown and at McCormack in Pope County, before moving to Ledford, her home for the past 20 years. A brother George Coble, lives in Tennessee, and a sister Mrs. G.W. Atkins, Katoosa (Catoosa), Oklahoma. The grandchildren will be pallbearers and flower girls at her funeral, which will be held at the Ledford Baptist Church Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Cloyd Wesley, pastor will conduct the funeral services and burial will be at Ledford Cemetery. The body lies in state at the Evans Home.
