US Congressman. Born in Pine Creek Township, Pennsylvania and graduated from the Columbia Law School, in 1861. During the Civil War, he served in the Union Army as a judge advocate of the general court-martial and general pass officer for the Army of the Potomac, on the staff of the Military Governor of Washington, D.C. After the war, he was admitted to the bar in 1867 and commenced practice in Marianna, Florida. Upon the readmission of the State of Florida to representation, he was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth and Forty-first Congresses, serving (1868-71). After his term, he appointed senior Major General of the Florida Militia and was Postmaster of Jacksonville, (1871-72). In 1873, he was appointed collector of customs at Key West, Florida and resigned on account of ill health. He died at age 34 in Pine Creek Township, Pennsylvania.
