Pauline Sorrels, 88, of Farmington, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, in Farmington, following a lengthy illness. She was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Antlers, Okla., to Cole E. Nelson and Elizabeth Nelson.
She attended Antlers High School and graduated from Wheelock Indian School. Pauline was proud of her Choctaw heritage. Her clan was ipshi or Turtle Clan.
She was married to O.H. (Othel) Sorrels in 1938, in Antlers. She moved to New Mexico in 1947 and to San Juan County in 1950.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, O.H. Sorrels; sons, Othel Houston Sorrels Jr. of Kenai, Alaska, Stephen Nelson Sorrels, of Bloomfield, and Joseph David Sorrels, of Springtown, Texas; daughters, Paula Sue Brimhall, of Farmington and Judy Elizabeth Jeter, of Grand Junction, Colo.; and by 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pauline was given the name Other Mother by her first grandchild and the name stuck. Other Mother never met a stranger and probably fed every neighbor kid for blocks around. Everyone gathered at her house.
