WRIGHT - Eugene "Gene" J. Durler, 72, died peacefully at his home following a long illness on January 17, 2011. He was born on September 1, 1938 at Wright the son of Frank J. and Elizabeth Ann (Schuette) Durler.
Eugene attended St. Andrew school in Wright and graduated from Spearville High School in 1956. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher. Eugene served in the United States Army. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend to many. Gene was a dedicated member of the AA program and was always willing to help others in the fellowship. Mr. Durler served as the treasurer of the Spearville Township for over 26 years.
On August 17, 1961 he married Dianne Ricke at St Andrew Church in Wright.
He was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church of Wright.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Dianne Durler of Wright; son, Tom Durler of Wright; two daughters, Nancy Cunningham and husband Rick of Ellis and Jennifer Turner and husband Scott of Lee's Summit, Missouri; two grandchildren, Samantha Weinhold and Matthew Cunningham; two brothers, Leonard Durler and wife Evelyn and Anthony Durler and wife Julie both of Dodge City; and a sister, Louise VanNahmen of Spearville.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe and a sister, Helen.
Vigil Service will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Robert A. Schremmer presiding. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery in Wright. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
