Melvin A. Watson, Sr. age 95 died on November 3, 2009. Born in Downer, he lived in Glassboro and Washington Twp all of his life. He was Valedictorian of the 1932 graduating class at Glassboro High School. Melvin was a self employed farmer in Washington Twp and was known as the "Turnip King". He served as Mayor of Washington Twp. for a term during the 1960's. He loved flowers and was a great storyteller.
Predeceased by his wife Emma Mae (nee Applebee) and son Melvin A., Jr, he is survived by his children Virginia Duffield of Salem, NH, Robert (Noreen) of West Deptford, Gary (Nancy) of Franklinville, Gail Watson of Deptford and David (Marty) of FL, 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Friends may call on Friday after 10am in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral service 11am. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park.
