Fran was the youngest of four and the only daughter of Jacob Arie Van Dyke and Barbara DeReus. By 1930, her father had moved the family to Kellogg where she grew up and graduated from high school.

Fran married William Wayne Roberts on Dec. 1, 1943, at the Kellogg Methodist Church. They met on a blind date arranged by Wayne's best friend on Dec. 6, 1941. They were married for 63 years.

During World War II, while Wayne was serving in the Army Air Force, Fran did her part for the war effort by packing .50 caliber ammunition at the Des Moines Ordinance Plant in Ankeny.

After the war, the couple continued to live in Newton where they became the parents of two sons: John Evan "Jack" and James David.

Later, they lived in Kentucky and Louisiana and in the early 1960s they moved to Texas permanently. Fran was dedicated to being a wife and mother but as her boys got older, she worked as an office manager for State Farm Insurance for a number of years. Fran was an excellent seamstress and made clothing for her husband and sons. She also enjoyed pursuing the hobbies of furniture and cabinet finishing, needlepoint and knitting. Family and friends often received these handmade items as gifts.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers [Gerald Keith in 1956, Merwyn Dale in 2003, and Edward Alvin in 1992] and her dear husband Wayne who passed in 2007.

She is survived by her two sons: Jack (Kathy) Roberts and Jim (Sara) Roberts; four grandchildren: Jennifer (Johnny), Stacy, Lisa (Rick) and Cole; and several nieces and nephews.
