Death of Little Jacob.

Died - of appendicitis, March 24, 1901, at his home 3 1/2 miles southwest of Williams, Jacob, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Westwick. Jacob was born in Sheridan, LaSalle county, Ill., July 24, 1890, and thus was 10 years and 8 months old at the time of his death. Little Jacob was a bright and lovable child; to know him was to love him. At school he was one of the first in his class. Oh, how he will be missed there. By him you were always greeted with a smile and kindly word. The pall bearers were selected from his schoolmates and were Willie Hahlwegler, Bennie Pelz, Carl Hogan and Truman Peterson, who, with sad hearts carried him to his last resting place. Many are the friends and neighbors who will find it had to realize that little Jacob has gone from them never to return. But such is human life and human destiny. Death thrusts its cruel sickle and both young and old alike must obey its coming sooner or later. He approached death with a firm faith in Jesus and an expressed desire to go to Him. He will be missed in his Sunday school, where he always manifested such a deep interest, and Oh, so sadly in the home that he has always made so bright and happy. But the consolation - our loss is his gain. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Eastvold of Tabitha Lutheran church, and the remains were laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery surrounding the church. The family have the sincere sympathy of the whole community in this their sad affliction.

The family photo posted on his father's memorial states Jacob was "killed by an old cow at age 11". I'm unable to find a death record to confirm this vs the statement that he died of appendicitis.
