Lenard J. Hannine, 84, of Cook, former longtime resident of Linden Grove Township, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at St. Michael's Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia.

He was born on June 26, 1923, at Cook, the son of Evert and Mary (Bergman) Hannine. He grew up and lived in Linden Grove Township for 75 years before moving to Cook in 1999. His parents were pioneer residents of that area. He served in the Navy during World War 11. He married Barbara MacClanathan on September 18, 1954, at Linden Grove. Lenard worked construction and logged most of his working life. He and Barb harvested many big gardens, and he loved fishing. Earlier he also liked hunting (any time of year he felt like it, as he jokingly told it.) His family fondly remembers the love he had had for his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a life member of the Cook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1757.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara "Barb"; 4 sons, Barry (Shirley) Hannine of Burnsville, MN., Elliot (Eva) Hannine, Dane Hannine, and Jon (Jessica Hanke) Hannine all of Linden Grove; 3 daughters, Jean Hannine of Cook, Denise Namchek of Agana, Guam, and Verna (John) Manly of Oakdale, MN.; 12 Grandchildren: Vicki, Monica, Nicole, Amy, Sarah, Christopher, Shawn, Samantha, David, Sonya, Sid and Tanya; and 3 Great Grandchildren: Alex, Rico and Kayla.

He is preceded in death by one brother, Paul Hannine in 1997 and a cousin Elmer Hannine in 2003, and a granddaughter, Tiffany Hannine in 1988. Funeral arrangements with the Mlaker Funeral Home, Cook.

Memorial services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, (December 15th) at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Rev. Arthur Dale will be the officiant. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The honorary bearers will be grandchildren: Chris, Shawn, Samantha and Sarah Hannine, and Sid and Tanya Manly. Military honors will be accorded by the combined honors guards of the Cook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1757, and the Orr American Legion Post #480.

Spring interment will be in the family lot in Willow Valley Township Cemetery.
