Richard A. Tynan, Sr., 61, of Rockford, died Thursday, October 8, 2009, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Richard Tynan, Sr., will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor David Werges of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue an hour before the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Richard Allan Tynan, Sr. was born July 1, 1948, at Charles City, the son of Leo and Barbara (Nelson) Tynan. He graduated from the Council Bluff School for the deaf. On December 15, 1973, he was united in marriage to Diane McDonald in Cedar Rapids. Richard was employed at Allied Construction for over 30 years. After retirement he worked part-time on the night shift at Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Iowa Deaf Club and the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. His interests included side jobs, fishing, hunting, camping, fixing things, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Living family members include his two children, Richard Tynan, Jr. of Mason City and Racheal (Jeremiah) Ferch of New Hampton; seven grandchildren, Mercedes and Lexus Tynan, Cole, Chelsea, Justice, J.J. and Jesup Ferch; special friend, Patty Mathis of Waukon; many cousins, including Denny Tynan; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents; wife; and infant sister.
