Mrs. Chase, of Center, died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.E. Featherstone in Center, after an illness lasting several months. Mrs. Chase was 87 years of age, having been born May 18th, 1929 in Greenville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of James and Isabelle (Redmon) Newby. Her father was a native of Ohio but located in South Carolina when a young man. The mother was a native of South Carolina. Her mother died when Georgianna was about six months old and she remained in the care of her grandmother Newby until she was about ten years old. The father, daughter and grandparents moved from South Carolina to Indiana, locating in Vernon, Jennings county. Here the father married again, his second wife being, Mrs. Mary (Shields) Kane, widow of Jesse Kane. Six children were born to this union, four living, who survive Mrs. Chase. They being; Howard Newby, of California; Miss Dora Newby, who makes her home with Edgar Allen, of Tipton county; Mrs. Susan Hobrick and Miss Flora Newby, of Indianapolis. The deceased married Joseph Chase on Oct. 3, 1850, in Jennings County, Indiana. They resided in that county and Bartholomew county for several years and also lived in Indianapolis for a short time. They moved to Tipton county in 1865 settling on a farm southwest of Sharpsville. The husband died in September, 1906. She was the mother of five children, two daughters surviving her. Mrs. Featherstone, with whom she made her home and Mrs. George Duncan, of Prairie township, Tipton county.
