Charles was the son of John David McKim and Rebecca (Musselman). He married Mary Maxwell on Jan. 2, 1902 in Taylor Co., IA.

Charles shot and killed his wife Mary. She died at her parent's home a few days later. A month after her death, Charles went to the cemetery and killed himself. He is buried in an unmarked grave with his parents and wife. There is another death date listed for Charles as March 16, 1903.
