Jack/John was a coal mine foreman and inspector, also known as a "fire boss", at the Beacon Coal Company. He felt the roof of the mine with his head to feel vibrations through his spine to alert miners of safety issues if he felt the mine shaking.
Jack married his lovely bride Edna Rickard (d/o of John Harrison and Sarah Annie Weakland Rickard) in Frugality, PA. They had fourteen children, 10 lived to adulthood. After Jack's wife passed in 1932, Jack kept his family together with the help of Edna's parents who lived next door.
Jack and Edna are not buried side by side. She was Catholic, he was Protestant. A church in Coalport, PA bears a lighted cross at the very top of its highest peak, donated by Jack P. Hall in memory of his wife, Edna.
