Robert B. "Bob" Stamps has died at the age of 91. The U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran, who went on to establish Stamps Commercial Press and Stamps Office Supply, and also served as a Jasper City Councilman in the early 1990's, died at about 10:20 on Thursday evening in Katy.

Stamps was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Jasper, and a member of the Dewitt Clinton Masonic Lodge.

Stamps, a member of the "Greatest Generation of Americans", loved aviation, in fact he was in the 2nd Bomb Wing of the Army Air Corps, and was a gunner in a B-17 over Germany in the European Theater during WWII.

Stamps recently shared a humorous story with KJAS, he said during a bombing mission over Germany, his B-17 came under attack by German fighter planes. As he was firing at the enemy planes, he accidentally shot and severed a support cable that helped to stabilize one of the wings of the big B-17. He said he almost shot down his own plane.

Funeral services for Bob Stamps are pending at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper.
