"Died in Uniontown, Ohio, January 7, 1864, age 56 years, 1 month, 8 days. He was a native of Lancaster County, Penna. and came to Ohio in 1836.
He was considered quite an educated man in the neighborhood, doing considerable surveying in Plain, Lake and Jackson Townships, and also did much business as Notary Public.
He was post master in New Berlin about 1849-1853 and had the office in his private house on Lot #4.
He removed to Uniontown in 1854 where he ran a general grocery store.
He was a man of ordinary height and pleasant appearance. To him belongs the honor of bringing the first Daguerreotype Portrait to New Berlin.
He happened to be in New York City about the time that the process of taking pictures was being introduced to the public and had his portrait taken and brought to New Berlin, where it created quite an excitement for almost everyone had a desire to see a portrait made bt sun-light.
He was a brother to Joseph Mohler, John Mohler and Isaac Mohler.
He was no church member, took little or no stock in religion, but was a Free Mason in high standing, and was buried with Masonic honors.
The day of his funeral it was remarkably cold and some of the people who came from Uniontown were nearly frozen to death.
He was the father of Mrs. Ephraim Schrantz of Stonington, Ill.
His remains rest in Zion Cemetery."
