Dr. Humberto I. Cardounel, 82, of Richmond, passed away August 2, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Lourdes V. Cardounel; four children, Margarita Pella and her husband, Jorge, Humberto I. Cardounel Jr. and his wife, Nancy, Carlos Cardounel and his wife, Wanda, and Arturo Cardounel; two sisters, Violeta Feria and Yolanda Blanco and her husband, Eloy; seven grandchildren, Michael Pella and his wife, Denise, Daniel Pella, Hailey Cardounel, Mason Cardounel, Katherine Cardounel, Jacob Cardounel and Andrew Cardounel; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Pella; two sisters-in-law, Teresita Martin and Maria Casto; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Cardounel received his law degree from the University of Havana, a Ph.D from the University of Maryland, and taught from 1963 through 1992 at the University of Richmond, retiring Professor Emeritus. A Memorial Mass will be held 12 noon Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment 10 a.m. Wednesday at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad. www.blileyfuneralhomes.com
