Sherman - Funeral services for Karl Paxton Sanders will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church in Sherman. Dr. Jim Pledger and Dr. Thomas Peel will officiate with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.

Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery with Michael Deck, Matt Chapuis, John Flood, Gary Lunsford, Steve Campbell, and Jeff White serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Travis, John Fair, Ben Harmon, Britt Swain, Joe Howington, and Roy Jackson.

Mr. Sanders passed away Saturday, August 21 at the Texas Healthcare Presbyterian Hospital in Plano. He was 80 years old.

Karl was born July 19, 1930, in Sherman to the late Maurice and Adeline (Lanham) Sanders.

He graduated from Sherman High School in 1948 and Austin College in 1960.

Mr. Sanders served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and married Edith Liland on September 4, 1954 in Dallas.

Mr. Sanders joined his father and owned and operated Sanders Sporting Goods in Sherman from 1957 until 1977. He was later a former plant manager of Day Manufacturing Company. He was a former member of the Sherman Noon Lions Club and the Sherman High School Alumni Association where he had served as treasurer. Mr. Sanders was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking with the "Doughboys".

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Edith of Sherman; three sons, Karl "Corky" Sanders, Jr. of Austin, Jeff Sanders and wife Nina of Dallas, and Jim Sanders of Richardson; one daughter, Laura Hill and husband Jeff of Sherman; four grandchildren, Jenniffer Hill, Jeffrey Hill, Elizabeth Sanders, and Michelle Sanders; brother-in-law, Philip Deck of Houston; nieces and nephews, Patricia Howington, Deanna Deck, Catherine Moore, Michael Deck, Mike Gillespie, Bobby Gillespie, Joel Gillespie, and Mary Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Carolyn Deck and Maurine Gillespie.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday at Waldo Funeral Home.
