MISHAWAKA - Forrest A. Acker, 88, of Mishawaka, passed away at 12:22 a.m. on Friday, August 20, 2010, in Valley View Health Care Center, Elkhart. Forrest was born on July 12, 1922, in Stanley, WI, to the late Reuel and Bessie (Lewallan) Acker. On July 11, 1978, he married Joan Wesolowski.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joan of Mishawaka; two children, Rick Acker of South Bend and Rachelle Acker of Chippewa Falls, WI; and two grandchildren, Kessa and Lisa. He is also survived by two sisters, Irene Kizer of Warsaw and Helen (Bill) Eaton of Osceola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Clarence.

He proudly served his country during WW II in the U.S. Army and was in the battle of Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He retired from Federal Paper & Board in Elkhart after 30 years and was a member of American Legion Post 161. He will be remembered for his love of animals and his work on tractors.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, with two hours of visitation prior to the services.
