On April 16, 1868 Cornelius and his family left Greene Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania to relocate to Chariton, Iowa. On February 6, 1894 he married Emma L. Doman in Wayne County, Iowa. Cornelius remained in South central Iowa and Northern Missouri where he was a mill owner and farmer. Emma and Cornelius had ten children from 1894 to 1911.
