AN UNTIMELY END

A Young Man's Neck Broken by Being Thrown From His Horse

Special to the Gazette.

LONGVIEW, TEX., Dec. 22. -- The news of the death of Will Campbell, brother of T.M. Campbell, a prominent lawyer of this place, was received here last night.

Mr. Campbell with several of our young men left here about dark last night to attend a country dance at Mr. McKinley's at Willow Springs. The night being cold and the horses spirited and the young men reckless, they were galloping along the road at a rapid speed, and when going down the hill near Mr. Summon's residence about a mile and a half from town Mr. Campbell's horse stepped in a hole and fell a fearful fall, throwing Mr. Campbell over his head and rolling over the prostrate rider. The company dismounted and tried to resuscitate the injured man, but they soon discovered his neck was broken and he was dead.

A doctor was called and upon a partial examination it was ascertained his neck and both shoulder blade bones were broken besides being badly bruised otherwise. Mr. Campbell leaves a wife but no children to mourn his untimely death.
