Hazel Doris Poole, age 81, of Selma passed away Friday, March 26, 2010. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Selma with Rev. Lee Taylor and Wayne May officiating. Burial will follow in the Greensboro Cemetery with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Poole was a native of Greensboro, Alabama, and made her home in Greensboro prior to moving to Selma in 1953. She was a graduate of Greensboro High School, Livingston State Teachers' College, and received her Masters' Degree from the University of Alabama. She taught mathematics in Winston County; Perry County; Goosbay, Labrador; Dade County, Florida; Selma City Schools; John T. Morgan Academy; and retired from Dallas County School System in 1990 after 37 years of teaching.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and since her retirement was an active volunteer in several capacities at First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Bessie Livingston Poole and James Rufus Poole.

She is survived by several cousins – Dorothy(Donald) Lucas, Jeanie(Leon) Lucas, Roy(Rhonda) Lucas, all from Montevallo, Susan(Jeff) Benson and Baxter Pamplin of Alabaster, Agnes Eades of Orange Park, Florida, Robert(Juanita) Poole of Danville, Kentucky.

Pallbearers are Wayne May, Eugene Middlebrooks, Ken Roberts, Harold Spier, Arlon Thacker and Billy Tate.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Joy Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.

The family asks that any remembrances be made to First Baptist Church renovation Fund.
