Hi, I believe this is the Curtis Duncan written about in the following article in the book, "A History of the Boys of Mercer County, Mo." The book year of death is 1918 but the headstone indicates 1917 so seems the book was in error on that point.

Curtis Duncan, son of Perry Duncan and wife, of Lineville, Iowa, formerly of Mercer county, Mo. This young man was called into the service with some of his associates, and was sent to Camp Pike to drill in preparation for overseas. Here he took sick, and died Dec. 19, 1918. He was 22 years of age, just in the vigor of young manhood, but such are the terrors of war. For many a young man, as in this case, all future hopes and prospects fly away, often very unexpectedly.
