GEORGE W. JOYCE
George W. Joyce, age 81, of
Richlands, died Saturday morn-
ing in a local hospital follow-
ing a short illness, death was
attributed to a stroke.
He was born in Tazewell County,
the son of the late Rufus and
Molly Houchins Joyce, both natives
of Stokes County, N. C. He was
educated in the public schools
of Tazewell County and followed
the vocation of mining and car-
pentry until ill health forced
his retirement some time ago.
He is survived by his wife,
Alice Tate Joyce and the follow-
ing children: Ingram, Ira,
Lister, all of Richlands, Earl
of Jewell Valley and Richard
of Mansfield, Ohio; daughters,
Mrs. Boyd Kinder of Jewell
Ridge, Mrs. James Vance, Mrs.
Lillian Griffin, Mrs. Banner
Wilson and Mrs. John Nuckles,
all of Richlands.
He is also survived by the
following brothers and sisters:
John, Witten, both of Richlands,
Robert of Jewell Ridge, Mrs.
Alice Vance , Mrs. Catherine
Ratliff of Richlands and Mrs.
Maggie Stevenson of Jewell
Ridge. He is also survived by
49 grandchildren and 56 great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
from the Richlands Christian
Church with the Rev. Richard
Hedrick officiating. Interment
was in the Hankins Cemetery.
The body was removed from the
Farmer Funeral Home to the
residence Saturday afternoon.
