Irene D. Tokvam, 84, of Cook, died Thursday, December 29, 2005, at the Cook Nursing Home. She was born on September 20, 1921, at Vassar, Manitoba, Canada; the daughter of Henry and Maria (Johnson) Dokken. Her family moved to Grafton, North Dakota, where she grew up. Irene married Clinton "Bud" Tokvam on August 2, 1940, at Warren, Minnesota. Bud was employed with Zontillie Construction, which specialized in power line building.

They settled in Cook in 1950, where Bud worked for the Rural Electric Association. Irene was a waitress for Jim's Bar & Grill and the Corner Café in Cook. She absolutely loved to fish, and the family fondly recalls that she considered herself a "professional fisherman." Her and Bud enjoyed traveling, which they had the opportunity to do for many years. Irene was well known for her wit, sense of humor, and calling things exactly as she saw them. She was lastly employed as a nurse's aide at the Cook Hospital.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Cook VFW Auxiliary, and a past member of the Cook Hospital Auxiliary- commonly called the Thrift Shop. She resided at the Pioneer Building in Cook for a few years, and the Cook Nursing Home the past three years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clinton "Bud" Tokvam on March 11, 1998; a son, Michael who died at birth; 2 brothers, Donald and Gordon Dokken; and 2 sisters, Myrtle Lee in infancy and Orvilla Sorenson.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook. Rev. Melissa Stoller will be the officiant. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 pm Sunday at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Spring interment will be in the Cook Community Cemetery.
