Mary Rebecca Smith Carroll was the daughter of Peyton West Smith, Sr. and Frances [Fannie] West. Mary Rebecca was born in Garrard County, Kentucky on 1 June 1866 and married her husband, Winfield Scott Carroll, in Garrard County about 1883. After her parents died [in Garrard County, Kentucky -- her father died in 1890 some six years after her mother], she and her husband and their children followed Mary Rebecca's three older brothers [John Thomas Smith, Andrew Rice Smith & Peyton West Smith, Jr.] to Johnson County, Texas. The three Smith Brothers had left Garrard County, Kentucky about 1871, and after living in Dallas County, Texas for some 15 years, they had all moved to Johnson County, Texas. Mary Rebecca's husband died in Johnson County on 10 December 1903. Mary Rebecca Smith Carroll died in Austin, Travis County, Texas in 1934.
