There were three children born of the union between John and Mary L. Brindley Stevens. They were Walter Francis Stevens, Joseph A. Stevens and Mary Susan Stevens.
On 23 October 1888 John Walter Stevens dies of "milk Sickness." His wife Mary L. Brindley Stevens died on 12 November 1888 of the same illness. Their deaths leave three orphaned children. Mary Susan "Susie" Stevens is adopted by Edward Jennett and his wife. The two boys say with other famlies.
