Maxine Neta Penland Bullard, age 88, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 6, 2008, following a brief illness at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 30, 1919, in Shooting Creek, N.C., the daughter of Mack and Nancy Lane Ledford Penland.

She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Clinton, and was a very active member of the church. She was employed during her life at the Grammar School of Shooting Creek, N.C., Y-12 in Oak Ridge, and Davis Brothers Cafeteria in Oak Ridge. She enjoyed her family and friends, and she shared her zest for life with everyone.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Perry ''Bull'' Bullard of Clinton; sister, Maggie Miller of Lenoir, N.C.; three children, Leon and (Susan) Palmer of Oak Ridge, Larry and (Elaine) Palmer of Harriman, and Deanna and (Glenn) Little of Franklin; nine grandchildren, Ginger and (Walter) Young of Franklin, Mark and (Denise) Palmer of Clinton, Donna and (Glenn) Ingram of Franklin, Cindy and (Gary) Vanosdale of Knoxville, Greg and (Beth) Palmer of Oak Ridge, Gerald Little of Franklin, Angie and (Mike) Woullard of Oak Ridge, Julie and (Rocky) Emert of Knoxville, and Michelle Little of Franklin; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Don Long officiating.

Graveside services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Mark Palmer, Greg Palmer, Gerald Little, Walter Young, Glenn Ingram, Gary Vanosdale, Mike Woullard, and Rocky Emert will serve as pallbearers.
