Ray Franklin Myerly, youngest child of Noah Eugene and Eva L. Fahrney Myerly, was born May 8, 1894, near Burr Oak, Kansas, and departed this life at his home in Mankato, Kansas, on December 17, 1973.

He attended the Mankato schools, graduating with the class of 1912. Following graduation he enrolled at York College in Nebraska where he played on the basketball team that year.

Ray started carrying mail as a Rural Letter Carrier from the Mankato Post Office on January 2, 1917. He enlisted in the United States Armed Forces on October 3, 1917, receiving his Lieutenant's Commission in December, 1918. During this time he attended school at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Kansas in Lawrence. After his discharge from the Army, he resumed mail carrying at Mankato.

Ray excelled in all sports in which he participated. In high school he was a member of the Championship Bowling team. As an early teen-ager, he played semi-professional baseball in the Midwest Plain States area. After a successful career in baseball, he played championship golf and was described by his fellow associates as quiet and unassuming.

Ray was united in marriage to Phyllis E. Jones of Mankato on October 8, 1937,

After working 38 years and 9 months for the Postal Service, he retired on November 30, 1955, devoting his time to his farming interests.

Ray was a 50-year member of the Masonic Order AF and AM 87 in Mankato, the American Legion, and the Rural Letter Carriers' Association.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two sisters, Gail E. Bliss of Mankato and Jessie Christine Townsdin of Saguache, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John of San Diego, California, and Cloyd of Mankato.

Services were held at the Kramer Funeral Home on December 20, 1973, with the Rev. Vernon Snider of the Harmony United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Mankato with a Masonic Commitment Service, Casket bearers were Kenneth Wilsman, Charles Ramey, Marvin Walker, Lawrence Roe, Roderick Weltmer, and Charles Soash.
