Joseph Benjamin (Joe) Pounds, Jr.- born May 11, 1935, a native and resident of Mobile, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tillmans Corner and the Silver Shepards Sunday School class. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Cataba from 1952 until 1956. Mr. Pounds retired from civil service where he was employed at Kessler Air Force Base. He opened an Auto Body Shop in 1972, which led to the opening in 1983 of Joe Pounds Auto Parts where he served as President and CEO until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph B. Pounds, Sr. and Mary Opal Pounds, and brother-in-law Don Selph. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Vicki, daughter Kathryn (Cory) Buhring of Miamisburg, Ohio, son Greg (Paige) Pounds of Mobile and step daughters: Tammy McCue of Richland, MS and Angelique (Jon) Murray of West Point, MS, six grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mary Selph, brothers: Don (Martha) Pounds, William A. Pounds, and Wilbur D. (Vera) Pounds, all of Mobile, nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. Visitation will be held at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Monday, November 9, 2009 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with graveside services with full Military honors to follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. The family would like to express a very special thank you to Dr. David Clarkson and his devoted staff at the Mitchell Cancer Institute of Mobile. Mr. Joseph Benjamin "Joe" Pounds- funeral services were held from the graveside on Monday November 9, 2009 at 2PM with Dr. Greg Pouncey officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Daniel McCue, Tyler Gallant, Jonathan Murray, Larry Thames, Brad Thames, Robbie Pounds, Chris Pounds, Armour Smith, and Larry Ladnier. Active pallbearers were Tylor Buhring, Dylan Pounds, Wayne Selph, Kenneth E. Pounds, and Jimmy Murrill. Full Military honors were rendered by the American Legion Post #250 Honor Guard.
