Friday, September 18, 2009 Updated: Saturday, September 19, 2009 Funeral services for Chester Montgomery, 86, have been scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Ballard Chapel. The Rev. Onsy Whicker will officiate. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery. Roswell Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services. Chester passed away on Sept. 18, 2009, at Mission Arch Care Center in Roswell.
Chester was born on Dec. 24, 1922, in Alma, Okla., to John Lee Montgomery and Minnie Lee Pope, who preceded him in death. Chester married Edna Irene Holman on July 12, 1946, in Wellington, Texas. She survives him at the family home.
He is survived by his son, Joe Montgomery and wife, Marilyn, of Palmdale, Calif.; his daughters, Barbara Peck and husband, Lester, of Roswell, Nancy Montgomery, of Roswell, and Reba Baird and husband, Jim, of Roswell; grandchildren, Daniel Peck, Charissa and husband, Edward Dimas, Newell and wife, Amy Peck, Peigh and husband, Larry McCreary, Tamara Montgomery, Candice and husband, Tommy Rincon, and Chandler and wife, Shauna Montgomery; great-grandchildren, Christopher Peck, Christina Aker, Kendall Peck, Taylor Peck, Nathan Peck, Trevor Herrington, Hunter and Jordan Rincon, and Jayton and Lukas Montgomery; and great-great-grandchildren, Lavonte, Trayvon and Atlantis.
Chester was of the Baptist faith. He loved reading and taking his grandchildren fishing and caring for them all. He also enjoyed playing dominoes and cards. Chester served our country in the Army and fought in World War II.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Peck, Newell Peck, Chandler Montgomery, Christopher Peck, Trevor Herrington, Larry McCreary, Tommy Rincon, Patrick Thommarson and Jimmy Williams. Honorary pallbearer will be George Mendoza.
